Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau names Donna Mulgrew as Vice President of Marketing

Huntington Beach, Calif., May 12, 2008 – The Huntington Beach Conference and Visitors Bureau (HBCVB) released 2007 travel figures from the report Huntington Beach Travel Impacts, April 2008 today in conjunction with its celebration of National Tourism Week, May 10-18.

According to the report, compiled by independent research firm Dean Runyan Associates, total direct travel spending in Huntington Beach was $350 million in 2007, up 6.4 percent from the previous year. Travel spending generated $9.9 million in local tax receipts, a $900,000 increase from 2006. The report also found that Huntington Beach?s travel and tourism industry remained one of the city?s major employers, supporting 4,170 jobs with earnings of $108 million ? a 9 percent increase over 2006.

?Tourism works for Huntington Beach,? said Doug Traub, HBCVB president/CEO. ?More than 16 million visitors experienced our city last year. Without the tax revenue generated by travel and tourism, each Huntington Beach household would pay nearly $200 more in taxes?

On a state level, the California Travel and Tourism Commission reports that total direct spending was $96.7 billion in 2007, up 3.6 percent from the prior year. Congress first designated National Tourism Week in May 1984. During this time, communities and states throughout the United States organize annual celebrations recognizing and promoting the value of travel and tourism, such as the HBCVB ?See My HB? YouTube® Video and Photo Contests.
